Lookouts
All of our lookouts were originally working fire lookouts sited in other locations, and were moved to Columbia Breaks at various times after their decommissioning. Many hours and dollars have been devotedly spent in restoration work by many dedicated volunteers. This is a continual task as the lookouts all require a good deal of ongoing maintenance.
Access to the interior of the lookouts is only available during Columbia Breaks events or by special arrangement.
Badger Mountain Lookout originally sat on US Forest Service land on the western edge of Badger Mountain, northeast of Wenatchee Washington. It overlooked the Wenatchee Basin, the Wenatchee River valley, and the Columbia River valley.
Chelan Butte Lookout was situated on a large butte between the city of Chelan Washington and the Columbia River. It overlooked the Lake Chelan drainage to the head of the lake, as well as looking north and south on the Columbia River.
East Flattop Lookout was located a half mile above the Mt Adams Ranger Station on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest near Trout Lake Washington. It overlooked everything from Mt Rainier to Mt Hood including Mt Adams, White Salmon and the Lewis River drainage.
