Fire and Forest School
We host over a thousand students from both public and private schools each year in our Fire and Forest School program with the help of our Education, Agency and Volunteer partners. This program gives kids a wonderful hands-on outdoor experience and brings science lessons to life. Besides seeing the results of fire behavior on the ground, and going up into a real fire lookout, the students get to explore the inside of working wildland firefighting rigs, and have real wildland firefighters demonstrate the use of their equipment.
School groups should schedule visits a few months in advance so that we have time to plan the day’s schedule, the kinds of activities desired, as well as time to recruit volunteers to lead the learning stations. Please call Dave Spies at (509) 670-4875 to schedule your student group.
