Trails

The Trail of Fire and Forest winds through the northern half of the Columbia Breaks site with a wealth of interpretive signs that explore the ecosystem, fire behavior, plant life adaptation and cycles, the role of fire on the land, and much more. This trail is on mostly flat terrain and is mostly ADA accessible.

The Wildland Firefighter Memorial Trail is a moving tribute to all of the firefighters known to have given their lives in fires on the Okanagan Wenatchee National Forest and is flat and ADA accessible. Individual bronze plaques are mounted on rocks beside the trail with the names of each fallen firefighter along with the name of the fire and the date of their passing. There is a lovely sheltered bench midway along the trail where one may sit and reflect. This trail was constructed by past and present Entiat Hotshots and other volunteers.

The Badger Mountain Trail winds somewhat steeply up Buttercup Hill in the southwest corner of the Columbia Breaks site to the Badger Mountain Lookout, where one can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The buttercups bloom earlier on this hill than anywhere else in the area, and are a delightful harbinger of spring every year. There is a delightful variety of other wildflowers as well.
